Intimacy Untangled: Asexuality, Desire, and the Pursuit of Authentic Love

by Master Ryker 07 Dec 2023 0 Comments

As an asexual person, it can be difficult to navigate sexual relationships and experiences. However, that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy sex or have fulfilling sexual experiences. Being an Ace can often be frustrating experience with partners don't understand various needs and boundaries. So where do we find common ground between Aces and their partners?

Communication is Key

One of the most important things you can do is communicate openly and honestly with your partner(s). Let them know about your asexuality and what that means for you in terms of sexual attraction and desire. This can help avoid misunderstandings or hurt feelings down the line. Your going to notice many of the blogs we have here will discuss communication.  It's because it's that important. We are most vulnerable in our most intimate moments and miscommunications can seriously effect people long- term. Refer to our blog here on SSC practices about it.

Explore Other Forms of Intimacy

Sex is just one form of intimacy. There are many other ways to connect with your partner(s) on an intimate level like cuddling, kissing, holding hands, or simply spending time together. These forms of intimacy can be just as fulfilling as sexual intimacy.

Experiment with Sensuality

Sensuality refers to the experience of pleasure through the senses. You can explore sensuality in a variety of ways, such as taking a bath together, giving or receiving massages, or enjoying a meal together. These experiences can be just as pleasurable and intimate as sexual experiences.

Try Different Sexual Activities

While you may not experience sexual attraction or desire, you can still explore different sexual activities that feel good for you. This can include masturbation, non-penetrative sex, or exploring erogenous zones. There is no right or wrong way to have sex, and what feels good for you may be different from what feels good for others.

Set Boundaries and Respect Them

If there are certain sexual activities that you are not comfortable with, let them know. It's also important to respect your own boundaries and the boundaries of your partner(s).

No one likes boundary crossers

While being asexual can present challenges when it comes to sexual experiences, it doesn't mean that you can't enjoy sex or have fulfilling intimate relationships. You can find ways to enjoy sex that works for you. What is most important is that you feel comfortable and respected in your sexual experiences.

Post Note:

Being Asexual has a bit of a stigma in the community. Do not pressure, guilt, or coerce Asexual individuals into intimacy. The choice to be Asexual is a personal, medical, or how they have just naturally been. It's not up to you to convince or change anyone's mind in the matter. Love an ace for who they are, not what you think they can be.
